| This Month - In the News
|
Blessings to all and a very warm welcome to both members and non-members! This is our first newsletter. I’m writing to help us all keep in touch and also to mark several important highlights in the short history of CBN-USA. As we develop the format for these, please send any ideas about more effective communications to editor@cbn-usa.org On a monthly basis, we are going to feature a member in this newsletter.
The purpose is not to advertise his or her business, but to speak to
contributions and hold up role models for all of us to use as members
and as business people. Obviously, none of us can know all of the members,
so please “nominate” anyone whose efforts and actions have
contributed to fulfilling our mission and vision. See the section Featured
Member for June 2005 to read an interesting sketch of a very
dedicated contributor. |

| HIGHLIGHTS We mark five years as a viable organization in July, less than one month from now. For the group of people that gathered around Brian and Polly Benson in early 2000 to flesh out a plan for a Christian-focused business group, that is quite an accomplishment! While longevity might have been a reasonable expectation, no one expected a multi-state organization with many chapters and hundreds of members a few years later. Thanks to all who have contributed and continue to do so. The CBN-USA National Forum held April 21 with Cedarville University and Business Reform magazine. On April 21, we worked with these two organizations to host over 170 people. Introductory speakers were Brian Benson, co-founder of CBN-USA, and Dr. Bill Brown, President of Cedarville U. Joe Johnson, Publisher of Business Reform, did the Keynote Address. Several breakout seminar sessions were conducted for approximately 170 attendees by university staff and CBN-USA’s own Wayne Essex. Over 30 trade tables were part of the six hour conference which focused on Making Sense of Your Marketplace: A Practical Forum on How to Integrate your Christian Life into Your Business Life. The event was patterned on other regional meetings that are being held
two to four times per year. We hope that events like these can continue
to bring our community together and prepare us all for the challenges
of the marketplace. |

| Three New Chapters thus far in 2005 So far this year we started three new chapters in Ohio (Eastland area of Columbus and Troy) plus Pittsburgh, PA. Each represents a different type of startup situation. The Pittsburgh Chapter opens a whole new state and hopefully will become the core of a new region. The Eastland Chapter opens a new locale in the Central Ohio Region that was not being touched by existing chapters. The Troy Chapter, a part of the Dayton Region, was started by an ex-officer of a major secular networking organization. It serves Troy and other communities that are somewhat remote from the other Dayton and Springfield locations. |

| Glen Schaaf
is moving from Cincinnati to the Carolinas. He is assuming a new role
in the Selling Among Wolves organization that many of you know. At least
on a temporary basis, CBN-USA is losing one of its strongest leaders.
Glen, along with Darrel Geis, was a founding member of the Cincinnati
Region and served as a Chapter Leader, Regional Executive and member
of the Executive Committee. I have been personally blessed and very
impressed with Glen’s efforts to build CBN-USA, especially in
helping to resolve growth issues and bringing closure to difficult issues. |

| This month we want to introduce Mark Snow, who has become a great contributor to our group in his first year as a member. Mark was attending several meetings monthly in Central Ohio in 2004. Then he volunteered to help in a Marketing capacity after one of our Quarterly meetings. We met several times and eventually, I asked him to participate at the National level on the Executive Committee as Director of Marketing. | ||||

In spite of a major job/industry change, and a short-term but serious attack on his family, his commitment has not faltered. Mark has been very helpful to all of us with his disciplined and focused efforts plus his insights into the growth issues we face. Thanks, Mark! |
